Verdugo Hills HS Marching Band and Color Guard are Champions of LAUSD

Congratulations to our Verdugo Hills High School Marching Band and Color Guard, the Marching Dons, who won the 1st place slot in the annual LAUSD Band and Drill Team Competition earning them bragging rights and the title of City Champs until next years contest. The band was not only 1st place in their division, but also scored higher than the bands in the next division up!  Way to go, Dons. We ARE Number 1!!!
From The Los Angeles Daily News, 12-11-11:
Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga was the surprise champion in its division this year, strong-arming
its way into what had traditionally been a three-way rivalry between Chatsworth,  Locke and Fairfax high schools. With a performance of the soundtrack from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the 40-member team came away with the upset for their first win. “It was really wonderful, a wonderful feeling,” said band director Vicky Lopez. “They put all their heart and dedication and really worked on the music and dancing. It was just really a super effort on their part.” Source: Los Angeles Daily News 12-11-11
