Attendance FAQ

How are parents/guardians notified when their student is marked absent?

Each day the ConnectEd notification system will call the designated primary guardian for each student that is absent to one or more class periods.  Parents/Guardians are also highly encouraged to utilize LAUSD's Parent PASSport to access student attendance records.

Does my son/daughter need a note if they are late to school?

Yes, the student needs a note with the same information required for an absence.

What if I know my son/daughter was at school but was marked absent?

Teachers do their best to keep accurate attendance records. However, we encourage students to check their attendance regularly to ensure a mistake has not been made. Parents can also check their child's attendance by logging onto their LAUSD PASSport Portal. This will help catch mismarkings in attendance early.  If a student finds that they were marked in error, please pick up an "Attendance Correction Form" from the Attendance Office to have teacher complete and sign. Please be sure to return signed "Attendance Correction Form" to the Attendance Office for processing.

Why do I still get an automated call when my student arrives late or I check him out early?

ConnectEd calls are generated automatically based on classroom attendance submitted by the teacher.  Changes made to the attendance records may not reflect until after the phone calls are generated.  Please don't hesitate to call us 818-951-5470 to verify if your student arrived late or missed class.

My student was out for a school-sponsored event/activity, why did I still get a call about the absence?

School sponsored activities can only be cleared by school officials and are documented at the end of the school day when attendance for the field trip is submitted by the sponsor.  Missed class for school sponsored activities does not count as an absence for students.

How do I take my son/ daughter out of school early?

Early Leave: The student must bring a signed note requesting to leave early to the Attendance Office before the start of the school day on the day of the early leave.  The note must include:  student name, birth date, reason for leaving, time of departure, contact number of parent/guardian, and parent’s signature.  All early leaves will be verified prior to releasing the student. All notes must contain parent/guardian's printed full name, signature and telephone number.

Partial Day Absence:  In the event the parent/guardian must take the student out of school before the end of the school day, the parent/guardian must come to the Attendance Office with identification and request to have the student summoned for an early leave. Phone calls to the school requesting early release of student will not be honored.  Should a student become ill during the school day, the student should obtain a pass to the Health Office where his/her condition will be assessed. When appropriate, an Early Leave Pass will be issued and the student will be released to his/her parent/guardian.

What if there is something happening with our family that is impacting my child's attendance?

We understand that sometimes there are circumstances that may be impacting regular school attendance so please schedule an appointment with your child's counselor to discuss possible solutions and/or alternatives.
